Sources: Delhi Chief Minister's oath likely after PM Modi returns from US
Digital Desk: The swearing-in ceremony for Delhi's next Chief Minister is expected to take place after February 13, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's return from the United States, according to sources on Sunday, as the BJP deliberates over who would lead the government in the national capital.
The BJP returned to power in Delhi on Sunday, ending a 27-year wait by winning 48 seats in the 79-member Assembly. The AAP, which has ruled the city for over 2 decades, won 22 seats, while its major leaders, Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, were defeated.
The BJP, which went into the election without announcing a Chief Ministerial candidate, has begun high-level talks to determine the head of government, with five politicians emerging as prominent contenders.
Parvesh Verma tops the list of the future Delhi Chief Ministerial candidates. Other contenders include Vijender Gupta, Satish Upadhyay, Ashish Sood, and Jitendra Mahajan.
PM Modi is set to visit the United States on February 12-13 for his first encounter with President Donald Trump in his second term. According to insiders, the oath will most likely be taken later.
