Syed Adil Hussain Shah, the heroic ‘Ponywallah,’ who died saving tourists in Pahalgam attack
Digital Desk: The attack in Pahalgam on Tuesday afternoon killed 25 Indians and one Nepalese national. It was among the most deadly acts of terrorism against people in the area in recent memory. Witnesses reported that heavily armed militants emerged from the pine forests and began firing on unarmed tourists.
One of the victims was 28-year-old Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a pony guide who transported people across Pahalgam's steep landscape. When the firing started, Adil, his family's sole earner, did not flee. Instead, he attempted to help tourists seek cover and even tried to wrestle a gun from one attacker. He was shot several times, and bullets penetrated his chest and throat.
Hundreds of people attended his funeral, including Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who promised government help to the bereaved family.
