Tezpur University arranges bus for students to attend Zubeen’s last rites after facing backlash
Digital Desk: Tezpur University administration has organized a special bus for students, faculty, and staff to travel to Sonapur and take part in the final rites of legendary singer Zubeen Garg on September 23, after receiving a lot of criticism for its initial inaction.
Students' outcry over the university's previous silence and lack of a formal tribute to the cultural icon prompted the action.
In addition to confirming that the bus will leave from the university main gate at 6:30 AM, Dean of Student Welfare M. Mandal encouraged faculty, staff, and students to express their interest in joining by contacting their respective warden, HoD, or Deputy Registrar (GA).
The plan complies with CM's proposal for controlling participation in order to guarantee a civil and orderly ritual process.
Singer Maitrayee Patar supported Tezpur University students protesting for Zubeen Garg's memory, describing it as a "rightful assertion of cultural pride."
The university will manage participation in the final rites with one bus for order, amid criticisms of earlier inaction and controversial comments from the Vice Chancellor.
Students and staff prepare to honor the beloved singer alongside thousands mourning across Assam.
