Tragic! Indian Army Officer fulfills duty before death; saves Fellow Soldier In Sikkim
Digital Desk: On Wednesday, a 23-year-old officer from the Indian Army's Sikkim Scouts regiment died while saving a fellow soldier during an operational duty in North Sikkim.
Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari, a young officer, was commissioned on December 14, 2024, after serving for less than six months.
The incident occurred on Wednesday while he was heading a Route Opening Patrol towards a Tactical Operating Base (TOB), a critical forward post being prepped for future deployment, according to ANI.
Around 11:00 a.m., Agniveer Stephan Subba, a patrol member, lost his balance crossing a log bridge and was washed away by a strong mountain torrent. Lieutenant Tiwari dived into the water right away, hoping to save him. Another soldier, Naik Pukar Katel, arrived to aid.
They successfully rescued the Agniveer. However, Lieutenant Tiwari was swept away by the current. By 11:30 a.m., his body had been recovered approximately 800 meters downstream.
The Indian Army has expressed tremendous sadness over the young officer's death, adding that his acts exemplified the ideals of dedication, leadership, and service to fellow soldiers.
Lieutenant Tiwari is survived by his parents and one sister.
