USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque arrested

Digital Desk: In big breaking news with ramifications in both Assam's state capital, Guwahati, and Meghalaya, a joint team of police, accompanied by the Special Task Force, or STF, arrested Mahbubul Hoque, the Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), from his residence in Guwahati's Ghoramara, late Friday night.

According to sources, his arrest stems from suspicions of accepting money in exchange for allowing unfair tactics during the CBSE Class 12 Physics exam.

According to reports, 274 students took the physics exam at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Assam's Sribhumi district, with 45 from the school and 214 from the ERD Group. Arrangements were allegedly made to help ERD Group students with their exams in exchange for money. However, when they did not receive the promised assistance, chaos ensued at the exam center.
Following allegations of wrongdoing at the facility, the police and STF initiated an inquiry.

Following his detention, Hoque was escorted to Panbazar Police Station, where his wife was also seen.

The family has made no public statements on the arrest. According to authorities, more information may come to light as the investigation continues.

Hoque is currently being brought to Sribhumi for further inquiry.

Interestingly, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, has alleged USTM of financial irregularities, massive fraud, and the issuance of phony degrees. His comments came as concerns grew about the private university's recent staff terminations.
