Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reveals massive IT and Railway initiatives

Digital Desk: Minister of Railways, Electronics & IT, and Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, attended the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit in Guwahati. He unveiled various new initiatives and projects in the railway and IT industries, which will significantly improve Assam's development.

Minister Vaishnaw described the Northeast as the "new engine" of India's development. As a result, a new railway rolling stock manufacturing facility will be established in Basbari, Bodoland, fulfilling a key commitment of the Bodoland agreement; a facility for midlife locomotive reconstruction will be established in Lumding; and Guwahati Railway Station will be transformed into a world-class station with a 12-story IT park.

However, as part of the new strategy, two Amrit Bharat Trains for Assam will be launched within the next ten months; two new intercity trains—Guwahati-Silchar and Guwahati-Agartala—will begin soon; and quadrupling work will be carried out in the important Chicken Neck area. Future projects include a DPR for 18 projects (2200 kilometers) that is currently being prepared. The estimated investment in these projects is 1,10,000 crore.

Meanwhile, 60 Amrit stations are being renovated at a cost of Rs. 2,039 crore, and another semiconductor hub will be established in Assam. In addition, Kamrup District will host an electronics manufacturing hub.

Assam engineers will soon be trained at PSMC's fab in Taiwan. The National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) has installed a high-performance computing (HPC) machine, PARAM Kamrupa, at IIT Guwahati, with a computing capacity of 838 TF.
