Uttarakhand Avalanche: Last body recovered, death toll reaches 8, 46 rescued
Digital Desk: 54 employees were buried in snow when a huge avalanche destroyed a Border Roads Organization (BRO) camp close to Mana village in the Chamoli region of Uttarakhand. Although 46 workers were saved by rescue crews, eight workers unfortunately died. The final stranded worker's body was discovered in the afternoon of Sunday while authorities searched for him with the use of cutting-edge equipment and aerial support.
Eight workers were killed and 46 workers were rescued from the BRO camp that was struck by an avalanche. Manjit Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Alok Yadav from Uttarakhand, and Mohindra Pal and Jitendra Singh from Himachal Pradesh are among the deceased. On the third day of rescue efforts, agencies discovered the body of the final trapped worker.
Finding the stranded personnel required a lot of effort from members of the Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Border Roads Organization (BRO), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The high-stress rescue effort involved more than 200 personnel. Sniffer dogs were also dispatched to Chamoli to aid in rescue efforts.
Six helicopters participated in the rescue operations, including two from the Indian Air Force (IAF), three from the Army Aviation Corps, and a civil chopper that the Army had hired. The injured personnel were still being airlifted to the Army Hospital in Joshimath by the Indian Air Force's Cheetah helicopters.
To help find one trapped worker, the Drone-Based Intelligent Buried Object Detection (DIBOD) System was also used in Mana.
