Vatsala, Asia's oldest elephant aged over 100 dies in Madhya Pradesh
Digital Desk: 'Vatsala', Asia's oldest elephant, died on Tuesday at the Panna Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh at the age of over 100 years, according to an official.
The female elephant was taken to Narmadapuram from Kerala and then sent to the Panna Tiger Reserve.
"Vatsala was believed to be Asia's oldest elephant. Officers and employees from the Panna Tiger Reserve conducted her last rituals, according to a statement.
Being the oldest, Vatsala led the entire herd of elephants in the reserve and was the focus of tourist attention for many years.
Elephant Vatsala of the Hinauta reserve passed away due to damage to the nails on her front legs. As she grew older, she lost her vision and became incapable of walking large distances. She received porridge every day while residing in Hinauta Elephant Camp.
Vatsala had a long life in the scant forest area, according to routine health examinations conducted by vets and wildlife specialists at the Panna district tiger reserve.
