Digital Desk: In vibrant cultural updates, Assam is on the cusp of a historic feat as the traditional Jhumur dance makes its mark on the global stage.

Following the success of the Bihu dance's record-breaking feat, Jhumur dancers set a new Guinness World Record yesterday at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati.

The event brought together approximately 8,000 artists from 800 tea gardens across the state, showcasing the colourful and traditional Jhumur dance form to mark 200 years of the Assam tea industry.

This spectacular display of Assam's rich cultural heritage captivated audiences and solidified the state's reputation as a mecca and a hub of artistic repute and proportion.

The event was held at Guwahati's Sarusajai Stadium and was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Delving into further details of the update, a total of 8,000 tea community youths from across Assam performed the Jhumur Dance performance in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The event being organised by the state's cultural affairs department showcased the Jhumur dance, a cherished cultural identity of the state's tea community, on a global platform.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had invited everyone to watch the jhumur spectacle.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, flanked by Minister of Water Resources, Pijush Hazarika, attended the final day of the Jhumur Dance Rehearsals earlier on Sunday last week, with Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati being all decked up and wearing a festive look in the company of the performance artists assembled at the venue.
