Zubeen Garg’s cremation site turns into shrine of love

Digital Desk: October 19 will mark one month since the passing of Assam’s iconic singer and cultural luminary, Zubeen Garg.

In honor of his memory, a grand memorial event has been planned at his cremation site in Kamarkuchi, Sonapur, where thousands of fans and admirers are expected to pay tribute.

According to organizers, around 2,000 devotees will take part in a collective singing of devotional hymns, forming a powerful musical tribute to the late artist.

In a unique homage, more than 100 flute players will also perform in unison, creating a symbolic harmony that reflects Zubeen’s lifelong contribution to Assamese music and culture.

The evening will feature a traditional Bhaona performance—a form of Assamese religious theatre—to honor Zubeen Garg’s spiritual and artistic legacy.

The event is expected to attract music lovers, cultural icons, and well-wishers from across the state, united in grief and remembrance.

Since Zubeen’s untimely death 25 days ago, his cremation site has transformed into a place of pilgrimage.

Once a quiet location, Kamarkuchi now draws thousands daily—people from all walks of life, transcending barriers of caste, creed, and religion.

They come with prayers, incense, candles, and songs, turning collective sorrow into a shared celebration of his life.

Each evening, the site glows with the soft light of diyas and echoes with bhajans and Zubeen’s timeless melodies.

Children hum his songs, elders offer prayers, and fans recall stories of how his music shaped their lives.

For many, the site has become more than a memorial—it stands as a symbol of Assam’s emotional unity and cultural pride.

In Sonapur today, music and devotion blend seamlessly, reaffirming that while Zubeen Garg may have left the mortal world, his legacy continues to resonate.
