Global temperatures expected to remain above average due to possible return of La Nina in September

Digital Desk: La Niña conditions could return starting in September 2025, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), which could change global weather and climate patterns.

The WMO stated in its most recent report that although La Niña typically has a cooling effect, the larger context of human-induced climate change still means that global temperatures are predicted to stay above average.

The World Meteorological Organization's Global Producing Centers for Seasonal Prediction, however, predict that there is a 55% chance of La Niña forming between September and November and roughly a 60% chance between October and December.

"El Niño and La Niña seasonal forecasts and their effects are essential climate intelligence. Through directing preparedness, they save lives and contribute to safeguarding vital industries like transportation, energy, agriculture, and health, according to WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo.

The WMO forecasts above-normal temperatures for the months of September through November in a large portion of the Southern Hemisphere and much of the Northern Hemisphere. It is anticipated that the rainfall patterns will resemble those usually linked to a moderate La Niña.
