Japanese overseas employment oppurtunity- Assam aims to train 50,000 students
Digital Desk: The Assam government intends to send at least 50,000 young people to Japan for work under the Chief Minister's Foreign Language Initiative for Global Human Talent (CM-FLIGHT), Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.
Speaking at the CM-FLIGHT milestone event in Guwahati's Northeast Skill Centre, Sarma referred to the program as a "double benefit" initiative that would simultaneously give young people in Assam access to international employment opportunities and strengthen the state's economy through remittances from abroad.
My aim is to train 50,000 youth in the Japanese language and send them to Japan for work opportunities.

In this direction, I am grateful to Mr. Nishikawa for reducing the fee of this programme drastically, effectively making it ₹30,000 after Govt subsidies. pic.twitter.com/dW75DBwokF
The Chief Minister cited the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that the prime ministers of Japan and India signed, which committed both nations to enhancing workforce exchange through the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) visa.
"This is a fantastic chance for our young people. Learning Japanese will make one eligible for the SSW visa, which permits employment in Japan in more than 160 skill categories, according to Sarma.
Following a meeting with his Japanese counterpart, the Chief Minister announced a major update: a fee reduction for CM-FLIGHT participants. Applicants now pay Rs 30,000 instead of Rs 3.6 lakh, which was the previous total fee. Japan will continue to contribute Rs 50,000, while the Assam government will continue to contribute Rs 1 lakh. Loans from Axis Bank will also be available for this cost.
A 200-student initial training group is planned, and employment requires proficiency in Japanese (JLPT N2). If demand rises, more training facilities might open. Although there haven't been any official placements yet, some young Assamese people have found employment overseas on their own after studying Japanese in Delhi.
Candidates must be under 45 and have completed at least Class 10 coursework. Through Japanese language instruction, the CM-FLIGHT program, which is part of the Assam Skill Development Mission, seeks to create globally employable Assamese talent.
