State's highest civilian awards conferred by Assam government to personalities and entities work impacting state

 

Digital Desk: On Thursday, the Assam government presented the state's civilian awards—Assam Baibhav, Assam Saurav, and Assam Gaurav—to individuals and entities whose work has had a major influence on Assam and beyond.

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya gave the awards at a ceremony in Guwahati in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other attendees. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in his X post stated, "Attended the investiture ceremony where the Assam Civilian Awards 2024 were given. It is inspiring to be amid outstanding awardees who have brought about a positive change in the lives of people through their work at the grassroots."

Lieutenant General (retd) Rana Pratap Kalita received the Assam Baibhav Award, the state's highest civilian accolade. Last year, he retired from his position as commander of the Army's Eastern Command.

Subramanian Ramadorai, former CEO and MD of Tata Consultancy Services, was one of six recipients of the Assam Saurav Award, the state's second-highest civilian accolade.

Uma Chetry (cricketer), Dwipen Baruah (singer), Hemanta Dutta (mobile theater dramatist), and Dr. Bappi Paul and Dr. Purabi Saikia (both scientists) are the other five recipients of the Assam Saurav Award.

Although Chetry, a member of the senior Indian team, was unable to make it to the tournament, the award will be sent to her home under the direction of the district magistrate.

Assam Gaurav Award was honored to recipients- Fuleshwari Dutta, Meenakshi Das, Parthib Gogoi, Dhirendra Nath Pal, Haridas Das, Binong Terang, Nazrul Haque, Biswajit Bora, Bharat Kalita, Barlangfa Narzari, Ram Sashoni, Upamanyu Borkakoty, David Pratim Gogoi.

Chauran Ahem, a traditional Kaziranga food business; the Barekuri Eco Development Society of Tinsukia for its environmental conservation efforts; and Hati Bondhu, an NGO, for its work protecting elephants, were also awarded with the Assam Gaurav Award.
